Westmead Research Hub Open Day

Some of the brightest young students toured facilities across the Westmead Research Hub this week, including Children’s Medical Research Institute, as part of an Open Day event.

The day is designed to showcase the excellent research facilities across Westmead, which includes CMRI, Kids’ Research and Westmead Institute for Medical Research.

There was also information provided about the Westmead Redevelopment and programs run at Western Sydney University and Sydney University’s Westmead campus.

The students that were taken on a tour of CMRI were shown the world-leading ProCan cancer research facility, as well as some of the cutting-edge equipment across the building that are used in a variety of projects such as mass spectrometry systems.

One student, who was looking for somewhere to do her PhD, said she was drawn to CMRI for its strong proteomics program.

Another, who was looking to complete her honours, said she had toured CMRI before and was keen to come back because she was attracted to the work that was being done.
