Finding cures for children's genetic diseases

Jeans for Genes announced as Charity Partner

Jeans for Genes and Children’s Medical Research Institute is excited to announce that it will be the Official Charity Partner for the 2019 Essential Baby & Toddler Show – to share their common goal of ensuring every child has the best start in life.

Established 60 years ago, Children’s Medical Research Institute is the site of world-class research, working to find cures for children’s genetic diseases. For the last 25 years this work has been supported by the iconic Jeans for Genes campaign.

Fairfax Events Head of Parenting Simon Corkill announced the collaboration this week.

“Children’s Medical Research Institute has a clear mission to undertake research to improve children’s health. The Essential Baby & Toddler Show is excited to be collaborating toward a shared goal of finding cures for the 1 in 20 children born with a birth defect or genetic disease.”

Children’s Medical Research Institute Head of Fundraising Andrew Kelly said they were so grateful for the opportunity.
“Children’s Medical Research Institute’s heritage has community engagement at its very beginning, so we are thrilled to be named Official Charity Partner of Essential Baby & Toddler Show. We are excited to educate show-goers about the work we are doing at the Institute to serve their families. Most importantly, this partnership allows us to raise vital funds to help our scientists find cures for children’s genetic diseases.”

This year, as official Charity Partner, Children’s Medical Research Institute will have a presence at all three shows in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Show-goers can take advantage of a unique ‘Sew & Go’ embroidery service to personalise a variety of items including denim bibs and teddy bears. A gift-wrapping service will also be available for a gold coin donation.

Children’s Medical Research Institute will also use this platform to raise both local and global awareness of the pioneering work of Children’s Medical Research Institute in researching cures and therapies for genetic conditions such as leukaemia, cystic fibrosis, epilepsy, and metabolic disorders. It aims to highlight the prevalence of genetic conditions to build understanding, acceptance and community for those living with these conditions.
