Children’s Medical Research Institute welcomes new Board member

Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) is thrilled to announce the appointment of new Board member, Mr James Wakim, who joined the institute’s Board of Directors very recently.

“It’s an honour to assume a position on the board of CMRI’s Board, an organisation that aims to cure or prevent serious childhood diseases. I look forward to contributing my experience and insights that I hope will serve the Institute well,” Mr Wakim said.

In addition to his knowledge of financial services, manufacturing and international trade, Mr Wakim brings over two decades of experience of service on the Boards of private and not-for-profit organisations. Currently, he is a non-Executive Director for Seachange Technology Holdings, an Independent Director and the Vice Chairman at FSHD Global Research Foundation, and a Member of the Management Board at the Marie Bashir Institute for Infectious Diseases and Biosecurity. Previously, he served on the Boards of Gulf Energy, Menzies Centre for Health Policy, Westmead Millennium Institute, Westmead Medical Research Foundation, and the Ethnic Affairs Commission.

Mr Wakim is also a Senior Advisor to the Elanor Investors Group, a Fellow of AICD and a Senior Fellow of FINSIA. Previously, he was employed as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for the Bank of Sydney and Arab Bank Australia.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr Wakim to our Board of Directors. Mr Wakim is a community leader who has a longstanding commitment to supporting medical research. His experience in industry and not-for-profit organisations will greatly benefit CMRI, and will help us to achieve our vision of beating childhood diseases,” CMRI’s Director, Professor Roger Reddel said.
