School Visits

Science Communicators from the Children’s Medical Research Institute’s Science Communication team are available to visit your school to give dynamic and interactive presentations.  Using examples from the CMRI’s own research, students will learn the real-life challenges and accomplishments of medical science.  Topics include gene technology, transgenic species, gene therapy and even careers in health, medicine and research.

These energetic presentations are designed to meet objectives within the HSC Biology and Senior Science and Stage 4 & 5 syllabi but can be tailored to your needs and students' interests.

Due to geographical limitations, school visits are generally only available to schools in Sydney and surrounding districts.

The School Visits program is free of charge but donations to support the program or your school’s support on Jeans for Genes Day would be greatly appreciated.

A great range of educational resources are also available to download; the resources are appropriate for K – 12 students.

For more information, please contact the Science Communications Unit on our toll free number 1800 GENIES or 1800 436 437, or email info@cmri.org.au.

The talk is very dynamic, involving the students and using simple props, specific examples and strong visuals to demonstrate the concepts of biotechnology.  It really helped my students gain a greater understanding of the science and its future implications.
